  • The earlier you call the moving company the better. We recommend calling your moving company four to eight weeks in advance if possible.  Most moving companies are still very efficient with last minute moves but booking in advance can save you money and time.

  • Try to move in the middle of the week in the middle of the month. This is usually the best days to move because it is the least busiest. Try to avoid weekend moves, which are usually more expensive and might require more sharing of elevators, parking areas, etc. If you’re moving into a newly purchased house, move a few days after the closing, just in case the closing is delayed.

  • During an estimate, a salesperson will call or visit your home and estimate the weight and size of all of your belongings that you will be moving. They’ll also discuss move details such as dates, packing services and address any questions you may have. At the end of the visit, your salesperson will draft a customized written estimate for your review.

  • Your move coordinator is the person that will help you through the whole moving process. You can contact them at any time throughout your move. Your move coordinator can assist you with delivery dates, any additional moving services (packing, unpacking, cleaning services, etc.) and answer any questions you may have about the process.

  • First thing you should do is contact your move coordinator as soon as you can if your move dates have changed. They will update and process any changes to your plan. Keep in mind that your previous estimate may change depending on the new dates you have selected.

  • For long distance moves, the U.S. Department of Transportation requires us to provide free valuation coverage of $0.60 per pound per article, up to $2,000 in aggregate.

    Note that these two free insurance plans provide minimal protection, not full coverage, because they are based strictly upon weight. That’s why most people opt for Full Replacement Value Insurance (FRVI), which is usually provided by a third-party insurer. FRVI protects your possessions while in transit, based on their replacement values. You must take out this insurance prior to moving day.

    It’s also important to make sure that you change your address with your credit card companies, banks, insurance providers, schools or any subscriptions you may have.

  • The first thing is to give away, donate, discard or sell as much things as you can. If you still have too much stuff for your new destination you can store your excess belongings. Most moving companies offer full-service storage facilities that will take good care of your belongings until you reclaim them.

  • As much as we’d enjoy your company, we cannot transport you in the moving truck, for insurance reasons.
